The Whim 'n Rhythm Alumnae Board established the Whim Fund in 2026, in honor of Whim’s 45th Anniversary and to help ensure the strength and longevity of the group.

​

The Fund was launched through the extraordinary generosity of a fellow alum who committed $50,000 to match gifts from Whim alums. The response was remarkable: 97 alums participated, and together with the matching gift, nearly $120,000 was raised for the newly created Whim Fund.

 

The Case for the Whim Fund

For more than 45 years, Whim has been more than a singing group. It is a lifelong community defined by music, friendship, discipline, humor, challenge, and joy.

​

As Whim approached its 45th reunion, the Whim Board established the Fund to address the challenges facing the group today and help ensure its future.

​

The landscape for Whim is more challenging than ever. Recruitment has become increasingly competitive, particularly since the transition to all-gender senior a cappella groups in 2018. Financial disparities persist — Whim continues to be paid less than our male peers. At the same time, the costs of travel, production, recruitment, and outreach continue to rise.

​

Alum engagement is essential. Without sustained and meaningful support, even strong traditions can lose momentum.

​

We have seen both the fragility and resilience of this organization. When Whim ’n Rhythm ceased to exist in 1992, it was alums who stepped forward to bring it back. Whim’s future is not guaranteed. It is built, year by year, by those who care enough to sustain and strengthen it.

​

Gifts to the Whim Fund support important priorities such as:

• Recruitment efforts that keep Whim competitive during rush

• Planning and hosting Whim reunions

• Subsidizing the Tap Brunch tradition

• Low- and non-paying concerts for schools and nonprofit organizations

• Offsetting album production costs in the streaming era
