​For 45 years, Whim has been more than a singing group. It is a lifelong community defined by music, friendship, discipline, humor, challenge, and joy.

​

This year, as we celebrate that shared experience, the Whim board is asking you to help shape what comes next.

​

The landscape for Whim is more challenging than ever. Recruitment has become increasingly competitive, particularly with the transition to all-gender senior a cappella groups in 2018. Financial disparities persist — Whim continues to be paid less than our male peers. Costs for travel, production, and outreach have risen at the same time the economy is less certain.

 

Alum engagement is essential. Without sustained and meaningful support, even strong traditions can lose momentum.

We have seen both the fragility and the resilience of this organization. When Whim ’n Rhythm ceased to exist in 1992, it was alums who stepped forward to bring it back. Whim’s future is not guaranteed. It is built, year by year, by those who care enough to strengthen it.

​

To meet this moment, the Whim board is launching the Whim Fund in honor of Whim's 45th Anniversary, to secure Whim's future for the decades ahead. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of a fellow alum, every dollar we raise up to $50,000 will be matched — doubling the impact of your gift. The Whim Fund will be managed by the Whim board.

Your generous gifts to the Whim Fund will support critical expenses like:

• Supporting low- and non-paying concerts for schools and nonprofit organizations through the Whim '15 Community Outreach Fund,

• Recruitment efforts that keep Whim competitive during rush,

• Planning and executing Whim reunions,

• Subsidizing the Tap Brunch tradition,

• Offsetting album production costs for the current group. 

 

​​Alumni support strengthens both the current group and the broader Whim network. It ensures that future members inherit the same vibrant, resilient organization that means so much to all of us.
